It was with great sadness to hear of the passing of Dave.
One of my favourite memories will always be the time when as a young lad, Dave was showing me a can of “Champions Cola” in commemoration of Man Utd having won the league in 1992.
I presumed that as an avid United supporter (and as a 12 year old) was for me to drink and only once I’d finished the drink did I realise that “oooops I shouldn’t have done that!”…. It turned out it was a collectors item that Dave was keeping for prosperity, much like the NatWest Piggy Banks he always told my parents to collect as they’ll be worth a fortune in the future!
For the next decade or so, it was a standing joke in the family at Christmas with many a photocopy of the can going back and forth each year with good humour and reminder of that event in Christmas cards.
His incredible dry sense of humour is something that won’t be forgotten and he’ll be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing him.
